My name is Garrett Trummer. I am a licensed doctor of physical therapy, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, a sports nutritionist, and I love long walks on the beach. I hold two board clinical specialties in physical therapy: 1st as a sports clinical specialist and 2nd as an orthopedic clinical specialist
My passion is treating individuals who are highly motivated to recover, increase their athleticism, and quality of life. The body responds through proper stresses which are safely and technically implemented. I believe the only bad decision when it comes to rehab, is no movement. When you sign-up with me, you are going to sweat because true transformation in treatment and training begins with work. I am here to guide and educate you to crush your rehab, training, or transformational goals.
“I am not an athlete, just an older guy that is working hard to stay in shape and keep my cognitive skills high for a pressure filled, demanding job with little sleep. I pride myself on the lack of serious injuries through the years, but recently I developed some severe shoulder pain. The kind of pain where you can’t lift your arm or do simple tasks.
Hearing so many positive stories about Dr. Trummer, I figured he needed to be my first stop. Turns out, it was the only stop I needed.
At this first session I knew he was actually listening to me, and was focused on a solution. I wasn’t just another patient, or block of time on his calendar. He made my shoulder burden his burden, which was very refreshing. The first treatment was more like voodoo to me; later I would learn about “dry needling”. It is a treatment that used for pain and movement issues associated with myofascial trigger points, like my shoulder.
After four sessions the pain was gone. I mean totally gone. All motion in the arm was back, and life could go on. No surgery, just the result of an excellent physical therapist.
Garrett is a total “A Player”, the kind of PT doctor you want and need (nobody wants a “B Player” or a “Bozo” when you are in pain). And, beyond being a top notch clinician, he is just a great person that has a servant’s heart.”
"Injuries are unfortunately a part of professional sports. Professional football franchises want to protect the players (their investment) rehab-wise by either handling it 100% themselves or splitting the process with other trusted PTs in their network.
This is understandable because this is a results driven business. Being a veteran, my team allowed me to choose where I’d like to rehab my bicep surgery as well as my torn calf a few years prior.
Having gotten to know Garrett through some modality work and having seen some of my other NFL colleagues work with him, I felt he’d do a great job in helping me with those injuries while at home during the offseason.
During that time, not only did Garrett help with my focus of rehab and challenge me in that area, he proved scientifically that I could push myself beyond protocol and reach benchmarks faster than scheduled. He challenged my whole approach to taking care of my body and offseason approach.
With that extra push & perspective change, I returned healthy and ahead of schedule. I’ve been able to be confident in my recovery and in the midst of a career year!"
"Just 1 week before my knee surgery, Dr. Garrett Trummer randomly introduced himself to me at a local gym 3 years ago. I saw how disciplined he was to his fitness then knowing that he’s a PT, my gut feeling is that you can’t go wrong with this guy. First day in PT, I knew he was the right person. I’ve never had a PT that offered so much attention to detail for a patient. He just doesn’t hook you up to a machine or give you 1 or 2 exercises and call it a day; he spends quality time with each patient. As a physician myself, I know a strong doctor-patient relationship is one of the most important factors in a patient’s success. He understood what my goals were and will safely push me to the limits to achieve these goals. His ambition, knowledge, and skill set him above any other PT. I seek his expertise throughout the years for all my PT needs.
He's not only an elite PT, but a great friend, mentor, and someone you can always count on for a nagging injury! "
"After over a year of a mismanaged broken ankle I knew my recovery after surgery would need an expert eye.
Going with Garrett was one of the best decisions for me personally and professionally. We had less than 6 months from my surgery to get me ready to play football in the XFL.
Garrett made sure to clearly communicate the exact steps I would need to take to achieve our goal. He made sure I was pushed when I could handle it, and was given rest when needed. He gave me the confidence to let go of the mental burden that injuries can take and fully commit to my recovery process. I do not think I would have been able to play and eventually get another shot in the NFL without Garrett and for that, I am eternally grateful."
"I started working with Garrett in the Summer of 2022 when I was trying to recover from groin surgery. I had nagging pain that was preventing me from getting back on the pitch at 100%, and within a few weeks, I made strides in my recovery I did not know to be possible. Garrett’s knowledge of the body, PT, and dedication to his craft are second to none. Whenever I am near the city of Birmingham, I see Garrett as much as possible. This is not only for his world-class care and how much he has helped my game but also because Garrett is a fantastic human being. He cares deeply about his patients, and I truly value the conversations and insights we have shared, not only about the body and sport but also about the human experience and how to be the best version of oneself. I will continue to see Garrett for the rest of my career and after, and I am proud to call him PT, mentor, and friend."
"Working with Garrett has been the best decision I’ve made for myself as a collegiate athlete. Since 2020, Garrett has helped me recover from multiple injuries ranging from a simple ankle sprain to extensive rehab after surgery. Not only has he guided me through rehabilitation, but he has also helped transformed my athletic performance through his training programs. I would consider Garrett my most valuable mentor, PT, coach, and friend."
"In 5 short months Doctor G helped me become the strongest and most confident version of myself. I started seeing him after a shoulder injury. PT sessions turned into personal training sessions. His workouts are progressive and dynamic keeping me motivated to show up everyday. Doctor G is the best in the business. Forever grateful to not only call him my PT, but also a dear friend. "
"Having the opportunity to have Garrett as a physical therapist and a mentor to learn from has been so inspiring and made a big impact on me. Garrett is one in a million, and you’re going to experience the best, most strategic care in his hands. Garrett has a huge heart and truly cares about your journey as a person, not just as an athlete in his gym.
Towards the end of my pre-season, I experienced an ankle injury. Knowing that I only had three short weeks of care and rehab while I was at home, I had confidence that Garrett would be the one to be able to help me achieve my goals of recovering and getting back stronger than ever.
Garrett took the time to understand the sport of Acrobatics and Tumbling, and ensured that all the exercises and rehab were related to my specific sport. He pushed me past what I thought I was capable of — which allowed me to gain confidence and trust in my ankle and body.
Because of Garrett, I went back to school healthier, stronger, and prepared for the season as a D1 collegiate athlete."
"After 5 years with the utmost care, confidence, and intelligence, Garrett has been nurturing not only my physical health but mental as well. I know when I’m in his care no matter what the issue is it will be resolved with haste and mend me into a better athlete/person. I’ve come to Garrett more times than I can count these past 5 years never once doubting his decisions because every single one is always backed with expertise and a lighthearted joke. Now that I’ve gone off to college I realized Garrett is the one of the best doctors I’ve been in the presence of and I trust him with way more than my injuries but with my entire well being, knowing without a doubt that he’s the most qualified and passionate person to rehabilitate me. At this point I can say with cockiness- Body by Dr.G
A Doctor, a friend; To know him is to love him."
" Mr. Garrett is a very knowledgeable and compassionate physical therapist. We met after I tore my ACL and Meniscus while playing volleyball. During my rehab process, Mr. Garrett's experience with injuries, his ability to listen and understood my needs as an athlete led to me buying-in to his rehab process. His plan strengthened me mentally and physically and ultimately prepared me to return to sport stronger and with more confidence than I had prior to my injury. I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Garrett and have him as my physical therapist. Because of his time, effort, compassion, and energy; I am a stronger and more confident student athlete."
" I recently started my fitness journey as a Junior Golfer and have found working with coach Garrett to be a remarkable experience. Coach Garrett’s dedication, extensive knowledge, and supportive nature has made all the difference in my progress.
What I’ve found particularly remarkable is Coach Garrett’s ability to tailor the workouts to my individual needs and abilities. He took the time to understand my goals as a Junior Golfer and has helped me build a solid foundation while pushing my limits.
Thanks to his coaching and guidance, I have seen incredible results in a short amount of time. Not only have I become stronger and more confident in my abilities, but I have also gained a healthier and more active lifestyle."
" I have known Dr. Garrett R. Trummer for 3 years when my daughter was referred to him for physical therapy after her ACL and meniscus tear from volleyball. Garrett sat us down and talked us through the process of how he would have my daughter back on the volleyball courts as a better-stronger athlete, did not fail us.
Since Garrett was able to provide excellent physical therapy to my daughter, I trusted him to be my physical therapist.
I pulled a muscle in my lower back and could barely move. Garrett helped me gain my strength back and I was able to return back to the gym. After my lower back rehab, I had carpal tunnel surgery and once again I trusted Garrett to guide me through physical therapy. Garrett’s professionalism, knowledge and passion for others makes him an asset to his profession."
